“New on Old” is the concept of the project. The “New” representing the overlay floor on top of the existing building. The “old” represents the current site and existing building. This ideology is inspired by the local commercial space within the Harbord Neighborhood. Several commercial spaces in the Harbord Neighborhood have a very similar approach to keeping some of the existing site’s originality. The Idea of “New On Old” is that inserting a new program into a building that exists in the neighborhood to create a space that respects the past and continues to evolve to suit the changing community.
