KUKA 3D Printing / Fundamentals

The project goal is to investigate the practice of large scale 3D printing using the KUKA industrial robot and custom arm tooling designed for pellet printing. Disassociating the industrial robot from the typical autonomous, mass production can highlight its use as a future toolset for designers to create unprecedented works.

The project communicates the fundamentals of large scale 3D printing and democratize the practice of operating industrial robots. Through a series of vessel studies, the project defines the narrative of standard design parameters to consider when designing with the KUKA robot. The resulting outcome homogenizes the unique design aesthetics resulting from the use of large scale 3D printing technology, and introduce it as a standard for design of the future.
