Building with Waste

I have created a modulor shading and acoustical system that is made up of waste paper and fabric strips. This system not only addresses re-using waste materials in space but also creates a blind and acoustical panel solution that can be assembled onto the wall, ceiling, and windows where needed at Ryerson’s School of Interior Design (RSID). The two sided strip creates an opportunity for users to control the echo reflecting from hard surfaces and the direct natural light entering the space, all while redirecting some of the waste from going to landfills. I have honed into one problematic open space on the third floor of RSID to test the concept of the system that can be modulated for similar areas and passages throughout the school.
