To me, hybridization is the integration of different materials, an alternative way for the objects to interact, contrast and complement each other. Based on Camille Walala’s painting “She Lights Up the Night”, my goal within this project was to create an intimate and meaningful relationship between the elements I chose: shape and line. It was critical for me to develop a way to have the cardstock forms and dowel “frame” interact rather than the wooden frame be planar. To do so, I made dowel cubes on the interiors that correspond to specific shapes. This allows the forms and the frame slot together creating an intimate connection between the contrasting materials.
