St. Patrick's Market

238 Queen St. West is the site of one of Toronto's three public markets from the 19th century. Designated to forever be used as a public market for St. Patrick's Ward by D'Arcy Boulton in 1836, the project recalls the site's historical significance to the city and imagines a farmer's market on the ground floor and a co-working office space for the client, TCAT (The Centre for Active Transportation) on the lower level. The architecture embraces the  sloped floor, brick pilasters, and skylights of the original 1912 structure. New garage doors are inserted, creating a permeable shell, inviting in sunlight, fresh air, pedestrians, cyclists, skateboarders, birds, and other creatures.
