The Grove

The Grove is an adaptive reuse project for designer Iris Van Herpen and embodies qualities found in her garments: dynamism, flexibility, and response to movement. The concept treats the building as a body, wrapping the existing structural columns in polished concrete, creating a sense of forested enclosure around the communal workspaces. Reversible mirrored vertical blinds may be drawn for privacy between individual sewing spaces, disguising sightlines, or to separate the workroom from public space during an event. A kinetic light installation would be commissioned to hang over the stairwell, mimicking the dappled light of a tree canopy.
