SparkWorks was designed to spark ideas for Site 3 CoLaboratory, a member-run maker space in downtown Toronto. The new structure is a community gathering space, classroom, gallery, event space, wood and welding workshop. A hollow core with a large lightwell places focus on vertical circulation between program areas. Ample glazing between spaces creates visibility for easy collaboration. A two-storey mixed metal shelving unit provides display space for member work. Feature lighting and pops of chartreuse yellow express ideas in a state of transmission. Garage doors from the workshop open to a sunken basement facing Frank Kovac Lane to attract passersby.
