The focus of my model is the clear depiction of contrasting elements. Carefully studying two precedents—Piet Mondrian’s Composition with Yellow, Blue and Red and the Japanese practice of Kintsugi (金継ぎ), I was inspired to create a model that combined the two, balancing out one’s strictness with the other’s fluidity. The geometric and rigid scaffold structure is made of 1/8” dowels whereas the clay forms have an incredibly organic form. Contrasting colours are chosen and placed in areas that articulate both the form of the dowels and the clay.
